Microsoft Teams chat is coming to Outlook

Microsoft plans to add Teams chat integration to Outlook. The software giant recently started testing this new feature and Microsoft says it will be available to all users in March 2023.

“This feature provides an easy Teams chat experience from Outlook in the context of a meeting, allowing participants to quickly send a message or view the chat,” reads one item on Microsoft’s roadmap for its productivity and cloud services.

The chat integration appears to be limited to Outlook calendar items and will be useful for meeting organizers and attendees to discuss a meeting in real time rather than sending emails back and forth.

Teams messages also appear in Outlook on the web search results

Microsoft also plans to include Teams messages in search results in Outlook on the web. This feature is scheduled for February, alongside AI-based file suggestions in Teams chats. Also coming in February is an expanded view for the Teams profile cards, with a view that includes a person’s profile, contact details, LinkedIn information, and more.

As Microsoft Teams continues to improve monthly, the company is also working to resolve antitrust issues surrounding Teams’ bundling with Office. Slack filed a competition suit against Microsoft in the EU more than two years ago and now Reuters reports Microsoft has made concessions to the European Commission to try to fend off a formal EU antitrust investigation.
